Another idea came to my mind, why not take just a tour from Marrakech to desert area, like 3 days which is minimum, then return back and head for Essaouira by yourself either by grand taxi, or bus.

Because Diana would have to get up from Essaouira to Casa on the last day to fly out or on the preceding day and that's a pain. The distances are just so vast and there'd be so much travelling that it just wouldn't be enjoyable, in my opinion. I think her decision to stay in Marrakech and do a couple of easy trips is a very sound one.
