Is the Riad Merdoudi cooking school still operating?

The last TripAdvisor reviews I see are in 2010 and I can't find a link. Souk Cuisine is booked for our dates and I'd love to do a similar cooking class in Marrakech where you can go to the market and choose spices, etc., before cooking together.

Alternately, I'd love a cooking class with Berber women in the High Atlas as a day trip.

Help?

Hi,

Don't know the Riad you're asking about but here are a few alternatives; La Maison Arabe. The kitchen set up is very professional. The course starts in the morning. You visit the market and prepare the dishes under the supervision of a cook and translator. It is a nice setting, and you eat the lunch after the lesson. The cost depends on the number of participants.

Ateliers d'Ailleurs is a cultural experience too, where you will be shown and share cooking with local women.

Riad Knissa offers a class which is a cooking demonstration. This takes place in the afternoon when they are preparing the evening meals.

We liked the cooking class at La Maison Arabe. We didn't visit a produce market, but we did peek into a community oven where people take their bread to be baked. The class was really informatinve and fun. We noticed a market street nearby the hotel (La Maison Arabe) on Bab Doukala Street (sp?) on the way out of the median from the Bab Doukala mosque. It is an interesting street, busy and full of food vendors. We also saw a market near the Badi Palace in the lower end of town. Both of the covered municipal markets seemed disappointing. If the school you are looking at is no longer in business, I really recommend La Maison Arabe. You don't have to be a guest at the hotel to take the class.

Thank you both for your help! We've decided to do a cooking class with a Berber grandmother in the High Atlas Mountains with Morkosh: tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g293734-d246…

They seem really wonderful, and were so, so lovely to deal with when contacted.
