Charity bicycle ride, 28 April 2013

Mike McHugo, a long standing member of the British Moroccan Society and active charity fund raiser in Morocco, is promoting 'The Marrakech Atlas Etape', in favour of Education for All, a charity that promotes secondary/college education for girls from rural areas.

This one day cycling event will take place 28 April 2013. There are two routes from Marrakech: an easier one (60km ride to Ourika and back) one and a very difficult one (140km to Oukaimdene and back). More information at http://www.marrakech-atlas-etape.com

Follow the link from the website to read about the work carried out by Education for All. Those with long memories might remember the boarding house was the subject of a 2004 TV programme 'Road to Marrakech' when the BBC Ground Force team created a kitchen garden for the girls.

For anyone who has always wanted to cycle in Morocco but has been a little concerned about the intense traffic,

this is the ideal opportunity as you will be cycling in a structured event with lots of other keen cycling enthusiasts, many of them from the UK.

There are a number of participants from British cycling clubs taking part including from the Dulwich Paragon and Kinston Wheelers clubs.

Anyone who is reasonably fit will have no problem on the 60km event, the 140km is more suited to 'keen' cyclists as it is 30kms of ascent,

however there is no reason why you could not have a go and see how far you can ascend - you never know, you may reach the top!

Afterwards, if you want to extend your experience of cycling in Morocco, Mike holds a fully supported charity bike holiday

continuing to cycle through spectacular mountain scenery. You cycle as little or as much as you like, as at any time you can

put your bike on one of he support vehicles and hitch a lift in the accompanying people carrier. Again all proceeds to Education For All.

Hello Hurry closing date for Registration is 14th April

You can rent bikes contact Argan sports in Marrakech. The 60km event is really quite an easy route and I a 59 year who cycles a fair bit but by no means very regularly would do this in about 2hrs 30 min so most people can easily do this in say 3 to 4 hours .

Hope useful

Mike
