Atfalouna

Hi again

I have just read up about the work of Atfalouna and I would like to bring them a case of kids clothes, shoes and toys when I go to Marrakech in 2 weeks. I have tried to access the website but its in french so I cant fill in the form. Does anyone have any ideas how to contact them? Any recent visitors know if this is the kind of stuff they need. Thanks

Hello, I support a charity in India and had all sorts of complications getting money to them and in the end the easiest was to use PayPal. It takes a bit of organising or lateral thinking but it works. I know someone in Delhi who has an account and he sends me a 'bill' and I pay, it cost about 4% but chaper than banks etc or Western Transfer

Hi,

Interesting as your charitable efforts are and thanks for bumping this up, Atfalouna don't have Paypal facilities and ways to make donations are detailed on their website.

There is also an organisation which looks after children needing refuge from situations at home, such as violence, bereavement, imprisonment.

I visited last week with gifts of pens, crayons, notepads, toys and sweets, which I originally planned to drop off at a Berber school in the Atlas mountains. We were told, however that the school was closed for holidays. We did try to distribute the gifts individually, however this resulted in a bunfight, with kids trying to climb into the car and fighting amongst themselves. Our driver got annoyed and made us leave.

On arriving back at our riad, we asked the staff if they could recommend an orphanage to take the remaining gifts to and we were directed to Complexe Social Dar Tifl.

We went by taxi and turned up without an appointment, but the directors were thrilled to see us and gave us a tour of the home, explained their work and invited us to stay for lunch!

I don't know the address, but if anyone is interested their website is www.Dar-Tifl.com

Hi Shim.

I am taking my 12 yr old daughter to Marrakech in December. She wants to visit atfalouna to see why I do all the crazy fundraising. (Attempted to summit Toubkal in April 2013 to raise money for them).

However we would also love to visit espoir. I have seen the website, but if you have any other info you think may be useful before a visit there I would love to hear it. Please feel free to pm me. Niki.

Hi Niki,

PM function doesn't work for me. Hope you catch this;

Hi ,

Espoir (hope) is attached to Amerchich children and mothers hospital. It is a creche for abandoned babies. There are also a few handicapped abandoned babies who will never be adopted and have to stay there with no specialist facilities or therapy. Espoir also helps care for children with cancer being treated in the hospital and their families.

There is a need to raise money for the handicapped children so they can be provided with some occupational therapists and just to care for all the babies Secondly they need clothes and nappies. Everything they have is donated by kind strangers and there are regular volunteers who go in to do handywork (painting donated furniture and caring for the garden etc) and play with the babies and small children.

An arranged visit to make a donation and maybe spend some time even just holding the babies so they get some cuddles and love would be appreciated.

"The children are our hope for the future".

The Director in charge is called Touria Kabbaj - visits are by appointment only. Her mobile phone number is 0670 608 204 (00212 670 608 204 from outside Morocco) or you can email Touria at

tkabbaj@hotmail.fr

Thanks!
