Ficion books/novels set in Marrakech

Hi. I'm looking forward to a trip to Marrakech later this year and looking for a fiction book based in Morroco/Marrakech to wet the apatite!

I've ordered some guide books, but looking for some fictional reading. Anyone got any suggestions/recommendations?

You have probably been and come back but a new book out to rekindle your memories, perhaps?

Si Yusuf is an interesting novel written by the Moroccan writer Anouar Majid.

Just finished Shadows of Marrakech by Tim Kindberg, ahead of a return trip. An unusual and magical take on the city from a very interesting local perspective. I'll be spotting the locations where the action takes place - well, the bits in this world, anyway!

I have to add:

1. Richard Hamilton's recently published "The Last Storytellers", a (mercifully translated) collection of local tales still being told by dwindling numbers of storytellers in Djemaa al Fna;

2. Peter Mayne's "A Year in Marrakech", originally published as "The Alleys of Marrakech" in 1953, is the Englishman's account of life in the red city having bought himself a house within the medina. (I don't think I saw this book listed above, but sorry if I'm repeating a suggestion already made);

3. Elias Canetti's "The Voices of Marrakech". Although not fiction, this book, which won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1981, surely cannot be ignored!
