Marrakech-2 girls in thier 20's

My friend and i have booked a last min trip to Marrakech a week on friday for 4 days. Having never been to Morocco before we are a little aprehensive.

We are both in our 20's and are travelling with no men etc...do you think that it will be safe enough for us to visit the Soukes etc?

Also is there any sort of night life on offer~?

What language do they speak.

Having been to Egypt many times ive picked up arabic and hoping that they will speak that and it will be very similar to the Egypt life.

Any advice / suggestions will be greatfully received

Many thanks

I have travelled all over the world and I have to say Marrakech is BY FAR the worst experience I have ever had. I'm not religious intolerant I am open minded but for me the plain and simple fact is its not a nice place to visit and the locals are not nice and are only interested in relieving you of your money. In any way shape or form. Hated the whole experience and my wife was robbed.

but xinmichael, you are not really giving us an honest view of your trip, just a rant with no useful detail. on a thread you pulled up from over a year ago. which most other people would find a bit odd.

can i suggest, you start a new topic and post a full trip report. try to keep it unemotional, with no exageration, and tell everyone exactly what happened. some people planning their holidays might find it useful, which is what this site is about.

i am sorry your trip was so awful for you. but many, many people do go and have a lovely time.

The Medina of Marrakech is probably safer than an European City. There is a specialist Tourist Brigade police force whose duty it is to protect foreign visitors.

In what the language is concerned Arabic is the official language of Morocco but given the close relations with France, almost all of the Moroccan population speak French.

I got by fine by speaking French and didn't get the impression otherwise? Albeit pigeon but it seemed to work.. As for Marrakech itself, I love it and am very sorry that someone's had a bad experience.

Hi there!

A bad experience (everywhere..) can be arriving fast .. you go to the wrong places. .meet bad people. .get rip off.. and for sure ..the way you would describe your trip is not terrific!

I would say. that the very first thing to do is to get informed and get some good advices about the place you are looking forward to visit.

You can find a huge quantity of information if you carefully look on TA's forum and posts.

A part of it, depends of your expectations and if you are at the right place at the right moment regarding what you could call a perfect trip!

Concerning security, I would say again & again that the Tourist brigade is really doing a great job here and as said many times. .you get here less chance to be bothered than in Paris & London.. but can happen my friends!

You might just use your "common sense" and avoid pick pocket and other nuisance especially the ones who propose their service to take you places to places and just desire having commission on your back or make cash in a bad way!

..and when something bad happen. .if small.. don't take it as a full catastrophe and save your irony!

(Very) last.. Usually ..people love Marrakech ..or hate but no middle of the road!

Cheers! Oliver.
