Bus/Coach/Shuttle from and to Fes Airport

HI - everyone -

I am not sure if there is already a thread on this subject but I tried finding things prior to going through Fes on my way to Tangier in April this year and was not successful .

SO , here is some info for what it is worth : -

I flew into Fes from Marseilles, France , arriving there at 06.40 in May .

The airport is not big and very pleasant - high ceilings and lots of light everywhere.

There are two bus services - I had heard about the local regular bus, no. 16 , which is often full of students/pupils going to college and school.. BUT had not heard of the Airport BUS service that now exists... I was about to take this new bus/shuttle - I think the charge was about 6 Euros ( needs to be checked out ) since the bus was already there but since it was not leaving for 15 minutes , I jumped on the regular No.16 bus that came by .. one gets on at the back and pay as you get on - there is a cashier behind a desk in the bus . The bus is not luxurious ,far from it - but does get you town inabout 25 minutes , with various stops on the way . The cost is Dirhams 3.40 three dirhams and 40 centimes..

Both uses are to be found to the right of the airport a few yards away from the exit .

The local bus stopped near the train station.

Since I had about 4 hours to kill before catching my train to Tangier , I asked a taxidriver if he could take me around for a good hour - he was great - and stopped several times to show me the panorama from different view points and pointed out various landmarks en route.

The cost was about 80 dirhams.

Re. Fes train station - the lady at the information desk was very helpful and the train to Tangier very pleasant.

My return journey from Tangier to Fes to catch a very early morning plane to Marseilles, meant that I arrived at Fes railway station by train from Tangier at about 02.30am - it is good to know that there is a big boulevard style café/bar with a terrace just a minute from the station - just up the road . There were no strange people bothering one at the terrace at 3 a.m. - good to know and teh service was commendable.

The Ibis Hotel is right next to the station for those looking for a bed near the station.

Taxis to and from the airport are 150 Dirhams one way - however , the other person who travelled on the same train as I did , negotiated a rate of 130 dirhams for the two of us ! This at 4 a.m. in the night . it takes about 20 minutes if that in the night .

Hope that this will be of use .

A.

Destination Expert   What's this?
for Tangier

Thank you Alainwelch,

That is most useful information, I am sure many forum readers will welcome it. Fez airport is one of my favourites as you say very small but extremely pleasant, also I think Fez is a beautiful city and so interesting.

The Fes airport shuttle bus meets all international flights and costs 20 dirhams i.e. just under 2 Euros.

This compares to at least 120 dirhams for a taxi. Look fot it on your right as you exit the airport door.

The Bus usually waits until all passengers have disembarked and have come through customs before departing. therefore it can be a bit of a wait if youy get through quickly. It drops passengers near the Grand Hotel in the town centre. A red 'Petit Taxi' is then required to get to the medina, costing about 10 dirham during the day (before 8pm).

If you are travelling alone the bus is a great option, but if you are in a group a Taxi may be better as it will take you directly to your final destination.

The return journey from the town centre to the airport is not so clear cut as there does not seem to be any timetable for departures TO the airport.

You can alternatively get Bus No.16 from the train station (allow plenty of time, as I have on 2 occassions waited for this bus only to have to give up a go get a grand taxi). You can get a Grand Taxi from the Sefrou Grand Taxi stand just below McDonalds.
