Itinerary Advise

Hi

We are planning a 9 day tour of Morocco in October and was wondering if this is the correct itinerary.

Night 1; Casablanca

Night 2; Fez

Night 3; Chefchaouen

Night 4; Rabat

Night 5; Marrakesh

Night6; Ourazazate

Night 7; Desert (Torda gorges)

Night8; Merzouga

Night9; Marrakesh

Does this cover the lot?

What would be the best way to travel this route? Hire Car? Bus or train?

Thanks

Sean and Judy

Hi,

I'd have to agree with John. Are you just wanting to tick off each place so you can say you have "done" Morocco. Slow down please. 9 days is nothing. Pick your three absolute must see destinations and then plan round them. Distances are long here and time goes slowly. Take your time.

Four of the places listed don't have a train service. Travelling by public transport is slow. Rented car is more flexible but you are overambitious with your itinerary and you are travelling vast distances in order to get somewhere late at night but won't have time to enjoy it because you're off again early the next morning.

I concur completely with John and Shimmin, try to keep it to three or four places. Fez and Marrakech are both imperial cities, maybe better to choose just one and mix it with other places (Fez plus Chefchaouen or Azrou, vs Marrakech plus Imlil or Ouarzazate).

If possible avoid Casablanca (if only because there are more interesting places to stay).

yes..take your time..as said previously..there are many hours in the car between cities..pick one and mix it up a bit..marrakech, atlas mountains..essiouria..that could fill 9 days..

enjoy, and go slow..morocco has alot to offer..soak it all up.

Hi Sean & Judy;

first of all, you are welcome to Morocco Travel forums.

your plan seemed to be rush and not well organised, as it needs some fixing to be a perfect plan, so if you can hire a Car would be much easier because by the train or the public transportation will be a bit difficult for you although it's affordable way, but you will miss so many sites on the way, you will not have flexibility with your choices, as you be stuck waiting every time to the Bus or the Train.

so you can start your trip from Casablanca departs to Rabat, as you can see the following itinerary hopefully will works for you.

1- Csablanca-Rabat-Chefchaouen. check Chefchaouen hotels and accommodations on Tripadvisor to make your best choice accoridng to Tripadvisor recommendations, and for any doubts use the forum to get the helpful information.

2- Chefchaouen-Volubilis-Meknes-Fes. use Tripadvisor for helpful opinions too. Take it slow.

3- Explore Fes using a local Guide or the Guide book.

4- Fes-Medilt-Merzouga." Overnight in a Hotel after a long drive 425 KMs , 7 hours driving minimum.

5- Explore Merzouga Village- Rissani and back to your hotel to do the Camel Trekking and your desert overnight.

6- Merzouga-Todra Gorges- Dades Valley - Ouarzazate.

7- Ouarzazate-Ait Benhaddou-Marrakech.

8- Exploring Marrakech sitseeing.

9- Marrakech departure.

So take your plan so easy and just slow, but point places on the map before you take any trip, and compare time with places, moreover, see your arrival and departure times if it suits the places you are staying in by the distance.

Have fun and enjoy Morocco.

Hi John,

The plan i've suggested is the best plan to be done, but in this case the OP could remove Chefchaouen from the way, and cut the long day from Fes to Merzouga and make an overnight in between in Medilt, i did the same trip and it was ok, as the day getting long now so will be enough driving slow and enjoying everything in Morocco.

I am agree too, it is too much you try to do, and it would be pity to stay at some place only 1 night. especially in the city there you have much to see. And to go from Fes to Marrakech via the desert you have not so much time for it. Try to follow Tim's suggestion, do North or the South, but not both.

However, in case you wish do the desert so Hamid's suggestion is not bad either, it's just that you would not be able to stay longer at one place and it would be a pity. So if you can skip Chefchaouen you could win the time a little.
