Essaouira

Has anyone stayed in on of the Riads in Essaouira with a car?

They all say that parking is "at a nearby location". How far away is "nearby", and is the parking safe.

Riads are located within the medina, as this is surrounded by a wall and with narrow streets, most areas are not accessible by car. Furthermore, the medina is relatively small and easy to get around.

The 2 parking areas I am familiar with are Bastion du Sud (South Bastion) and opposite Bab el Menzah.

I have a map if you want one, click on my name and send me your e-mail.

Most tourists park on the large car park at Bab Marrakech (one of the main gates in the medina walls). It's bigger than the one at Bab El Menzeh. It's around 30dh a day and you should pay one of the attendants on arrival for the days you'll stay. Once you have paid, display your ticket in the car and you can come and go as you please.

As mentioned above, you can't use your car to get around in the pedestrianised medina, but it's handy to have the car to visit the surroudning countryside and discover some of the deserted beaches both north and south of Essaouira....

Not true I'm afraid John concerning animal welare. SPANA has many clinics and centres throughout Morocco, including Casablanca. They do sterling work. See:

https://spana.org/country/morocco

They are not the only organisation which help animals in need, but are the largest. And CW_1, if you do not wish to become invoved in an "argument" (I would prefer to term it an exchange of views) then why post in the first place?
