I have been trying to plan a December/January trip to Morocco, and have had very nice correspondence with a company called Journey Beyond Travel. Has anyone had any experience with them? Any knowledge of their trips?
I have been planning a trip in March with them and I have even placed a deposit on it. They are very helpful and knowledgeable, but I don't know much about them, although I have checked with a few hotels and they do a book of business with them (wanted to be sure I was not sending money into a black hole) and our reservations have been made. I will give a full report when we get back. I would welcome any input you may have.
My husband and I just came back from our honeymoon, which was organized by Journey Beyond Travel. They did an amazing job! From the beginning they took the time out to understand what we wanted and planned the trip accordingly. Our trip was an 11 day private tour of the country. When we got there, everything ran like clockwork; the drivers, guides and hotel staff knew our itinerary and we didn't have to worry about it. At the end of the night the hotel staff would say "your driver arrives at 9:00 AM, when would like your breakfast" Amazing - who knew you could get service like that!
The guides and drivers were all very nice and knowledgeable. Everyone was very accommodating. The in-country contact that coordinated everything checked in with us once or twice and when we needed her she was easily accessible.
I highly recommend traveling with Journey Beyond Travel. They are really experts at what they do.
i had a book writen by a Travel writer. they mentioned good staff about this company (also they book good quality of hotel/Riads evrywhere) a trip with JB worth it .
try to look for the member( Journeybeyondtravel)throwght the TA forum and read his/her threads.
I just returned from Morocco and used Journey Beyond Travel. They did an amazing job for a very good price. The staff was very helpful and everything ran as expected - like clock-work. They used small hotels and riads that were of a very good quality, in wonderful locations, and as I understand it, are throughly researched by the staff. The drivers showed up on time and all of the drivers and guides were incredibly professional (very important for a single female traveling alone in Morocco). The staff was able to accommodate all of my requests - from seeing all of the diverse landscape to spending time with a local family, and everyone I spoke with who provided hotels or services for the company considered the operators of this company to be "friends" so it was important for them to do an outstanding job. I highly recommend JBT for customized packages to Morocco, especially for those looking for a trip in the mid-range price.
I just took a 2-night 3-day trek through the Rif Mountains in Morocco with Journey Beyond Travel. They provided a good guide and mule with muleteer. Our accommodations were in Azilane and Taoratte, mountain towns. The days were well-spent w a great mix of hiking and meals cooked over the fire for lunch. Accommodations were simple in the towns (Gite Azilane and the guesthouse in Taorotte(sp?)), good food, fine beds, primitive toilet/sink facilities. The trip experience was super but I would strongly recommend looking into other tour operators like local Abdeleslam Moudden (written up in Lonely Planet). There are numerous guides and one could arrange a trip upon arrival in Chefchaouen. The JBT price is at least double what any other tour operator asks, and they require that you purchase travel insurance. The experience was good, but I am not sure how much "Beyond" JBT was compared to other more affordable options.
Sadly, I found Fazia at JBT very rude and hence did not book my travels with them. My initialy conversations with Thomas were very friendly and they planned a great trip quoted at a very good rate. However, I later discovered one of the hotels (Chez La Pacha) listed on the itinerary was misrepresented by Fazia. She stated it was a "2/3 star with pool" and then later told me it was just listed on our plans bc they were the provider of tents in the desert and that we would not actually be staying at the hotel itself. I do not understand why she did not just tell us to begin with bc we would have booked with them regardless. When I told her I felt uncomfortable about the way she represented it in her email message she was very rude and outright stated they were not the right group for us and became unresponsive. It was a shame as I hate to write a bad review for what appears to be such a good group of people. However, it turned out for the best bc I later decided to do the trip on my own and found it very manageable, even as a single female. there are so many riads to choose from online and all are conveniently located to most major sites in the medina. finding one on your own is really fun. exploring the medina on your own is fun. also sahara expeditions has daily departures to the sahara and atlas mountains under $100 that you can book within the medina on your own upon arrival which allow you to meet/travel with several others at your leisure. do marrakech on your own!!! I promise you it is manageable even with very little planning. you will be thankful you did. i sure am thankful i did not go with JBT as they clearly made me feel my business was not important to them. and to be honest, i spent just the same amount of money they quoted but felt i stayed at better locations and had a great time! not to mention, it felt good to know i did not need them either.
