I have decided not to do hana hwy. Sounds like too much time in car, road bad, and too stressful for all. But want to sightse and enjoy sights in Maui. What are the best "not to miss" sights we can see. eg. beaches, waterfalls, hikes, state parks without driving the hana hwy..

Janalta,

Since you asked, and brought up the point, I entered your response into Microsoft Word and did the abc spellchecker. This should have been what you wrote:

"Jeez...can we get Spellchecker installed here?"

I guess abc spellchecker never heard of the words geeze or spellcheck, or the use of multiple exclamation marks and question marks at the end of sentences. :o).

Sorry to hear you are not doing the road to Hana. It is a great drive but it does take a goodly part of the day. To beat the worst traffic, get an early start. There are waterfalls right next to the road, super beach scenes with waves crashing against the rocks, and at the end the lovely park with the pools to cool off in. The road isn't all that bad but you do have to choose parking spots with care. I am handicapped and will not do it again but glad I did it last year. The bridges are one way but that was not a problem. Anyone traveling to Maui for the first time should not miss doing this.

Last year the road did not go all the way through to do the loop drive so we had to double back. Still a great drive with lots of breath-taking vistas. It didn't sound to us that the road will be fixed anytime soon, if ever. An alternative to driving along this cliff road is to take a bus tour. Not for me but it is available.

Yes, I know. But there might be other first time readers like me who would benefit from my experiences. Like I said, I am handicapped and so we could not do some of the waterfall hikes but we did use Maui Revealed and it was a great way to do the road. Thanks to it we found a beautiful spot to eat our picnic lunch while watching the vivid blue ocean crashing in huge waves against some lava rocks. I'll always be glad we did it.

Wonder if there are other forums on Maui?

When we took our teens we went on the long snorkeling excursion that went to Lanai with the Pacific Whale Foundation (I think that's their name). It was our favorite activity. We saw alot of marine life and the kids enjoyed being out on the water.
