Life's a Beach in Kihei has $1.00 mai tais from 4-7, and they have $5.00 lunch specials. You can visit their website at www.mauibars.com.

We'll be staying on the north end of kaanapali beach for the first week of September. All suggestions are appreciated.

We just got back from our trip to Maui. Happy hours are all over. There is serious competition between all of the bars and restaurants. We found most of the dinner specials and happy hours in the Maui Times (a weekly entertainment reader). Our favorites were found at Aloha Mixed Plate and Canoes.

Aloha Mixed Plate had amazing food at great prices. Also, besides the $4 drink of the day they have $2.50 mai tai's from 4-6pm. Once the luau next door starts the music can be heard well. We hung out until the sun went down. Unfotunately, when drinking alcohol, we were unable to sit on the deck closest to the beach. We still had a water view.

Canoes attracts a more mature crowd to listen to live jazz, drink enormous tropical drinks and eat everything from a so-so salad bar to sushi and steak. The drink specials weren't that special - $1 off $10 drinks. But they had half off all pupus (appitizers). Their menu included sushi, sashimi, fried shrimp and more. The regular prices seemed high. We ended up with two island brewed beers and four sushi rolls for $30 . Not bad. Also they have a large outdoor deck overlooking the water to complement the comfortable, large bar & lounge area.
