If you are not staying at a hotel with a spa where would be the best place to go for a day or half-day at a spa? I have never indulged in this activity and think vacation time in Maui would be a great place for a first. Also what are some favorite treatments.

Romantic Interlude at the Spa Grande at Grand Wailea.

I'm assuming you're going with someone else special. The price for that package is nice (bout $500 total for two people and you get 3+ hours of treatment). My wife and I just got back and this spa treatment was a definite high point in our honeymoon.

it was a trade off. She woke up early for the Haleakela sunrise and I sprung for the spa in exchange. First time for me in a spa too....

not sure how being covered in ground up wood and encased in a trash bag and bunch of towels is supposed to be good or your skin. ;) Ah well, the smile on my wife's face was more then worth it. I think it got stuck for a good couple days!

There seem to be a lot of nice, romantic husbands on this forum.....do you give lessons???? My hubbie wouldn't know romance if it bit him in the da kine!

I have gone to spas numerous times. My favs are the massages. However, manicures, pedicures and body wraps are all wonderful too. My hubbie has only gone once and wasn't that crazy about the experience.

that's so funny that I found this thread. I was JUST going to ask where to get a nice half day for my boyfriend and I.

Besides the Grand Wailea, anywhere else?

I looked into Spa Moana as it was in West Maui, but it seemed like I would end up paying more for less time. Maybe that's a good thing if the treatment is so much better. Dunno.

Spa Grande has this thing called terme hydrotherapy. An hour of it gets tossed into all their packages. Short version of it is you get to spend an hour treating yourself to your choice of 5 different baths (from cool mud to hot guava/papaya and everything in between), plus waterfall showers, suanas, hot tubs, cold plulnges, 360 showers. Its nice for guys because you can do what you want, no one is telling you to relax and do THIS or THAT. If you're staying at the Grand Wailea you can actually get this ala carte I believe. It was great.

Having had a manicure (had to have my fingers looking good for the wedding closeup photots!) and a pedicure (since it was cheaper as a package), I can say that I wouldn't want to have either done when I'm on vacation. Neither one was all that relaxing for me (and I would have missed those wonderful callouses on my feet when I was walking on the beach). The full body massage on the other hand... mmmm. I'm not a stressed out or tight backed person, but I was really able to let go of all the small worries that had built up in planning a wedding and a honeymoon.

As part of the body wrap, they also did face and foot massages. Not as great as the full body (duh), but it did help the time pass that I was all cocooned up. The body wrap was different for me, different good, I just don't knwo exactly why or how. Sorry can't help more there. Might have something to do with the aroma and heat, but I'm guessing here.

Since you've never been to a spa before (and I'm certainly no expert), I'd suggest that you go with one of the various packages insetad of trying to build your own. Go early in your time in maui for two reasons. First, it can help with jet lag and will get you in the right Hawaiian mood for the rest of the vacation. Second, if you really like it... well you can now book a second trip for later on!

For the other posters that wanted romantic advise for their husbands... You can't really change a man, but you can certainly trick us! My wife kept talking about how much she needed a massage to ease some of her back problems and that she wished I could enjoy one with her (instead of just enjoying giving her one). She dropped enough hints that it all finally broke through and I "came up with" the idea of the couple massage. Yes, she did keep handing me honeymoon planning articles that also happened to mention spa trips!
