I'm thinking about visiting the area around Augusta in late February. I can see there are several state parks and also some private parks. I'm wondering if anyone local has a specific recommendation. I do have two dogs so I like to have areas to walk them and I have a small RV.

That was one of my top ones so am glad to hear someone who has been there concurs. Actually I'm going end of Feb. but my dog still likes cold water!
Augusta sits on the border of GA and SC.
The following SC State Parks are close to Augusta and have RV camp site.
Hamilton Branch State park (just over ½ hr away)
Baker Creek State Park (across the lake from Elijah Clark, see below, 1 hr away)
Hickory Knob State Resort Park
Aiken State Park
Barnwell State Park

On the Georgia side of the Savannah River we have:
Mistletoe State Park (one of the closest to Augusta, cottages, 45 minutes )
Elijah Clark State Park (also have cottages)
Bobby Brown State Outdoor Recreation Area (over an hour drive)

I apologize this is a late response, but if you intend on driving in and out of Augusta, the most convenient campground is Petersburg. My family stays there all the time. It's very nice, clean, has good views of the lake and the 18.5 mile Bartram trail runs right through it. If you haven't left on your trip yet, be sure to check it out.
