Just enquiring about what the easiest and cheapest way to get from Guatemala city to Panajachel is?
For the shared shuttle ride, it looks pretty good. One question, for some one like me who does not speak Spanish, how will I identify which shuttle to get one. And how will they know if I am allowed to get on this ride?
You can make a reservation before you arrive in GC , so when you clear customs and come outside, you will see someone waiting for you with a sign and your name. That will be easy, and the person will most likely speak enough English to get you set and ready to go.
Alternatively, at certain times of day, there are shuttle buses that are waiting at GC airport for people who don't have reservations but want to go to the lake (Pana) or Antigua. There is a tourist information desk inside of the airport but just outside of where you clear customs. I think you can pay there and get a shuttle to Pana. I'm sure you can speak English at the desk. If you can't get directly to Pana, take a shuttle to Antigua, and if it's before 4 pm, you ought to be able to quickly book another shuttle that will take you to Panajachel. It will take 2 or 3 hours depenending on weather, traffic, road conditions. From Antigua, I know you can get a shuttle to Pana for about $10-15.
