 Getting around Caribbean side

Hi, we are staying in Cahuita for 4 days with our young children (3 and 5). I would like to visit other beaches on the caribbean coast and was wondering what the easiest way would be. I like the idea of grabbing a picnic and just exploring but am not sure how easy that is with 2 kids. Are buses any good - or should we hire a car? Would like a bike but don't think the bikes will have seats on the back of them and our kids can't ride bikes yet! Any suggestions would be great. Many thanks

Maybe you can take a taxi to Puerto Viejo...and rent a couple bikes...some places offer the ones with the child seats...and ride to Cocles...Punta Uva...Manzanillo...is a coomon practice there...you will see a lot of families like yours riding bikes around...do it is fun!

Just buckle up and enjoy the ride in PARADISE!

for Puerto Viejo

Cauhita is pretty small. You can walk to most places. However to see Monkeys and sloths in the park, you need to walk a couple kilometers along beach trail. Easy trail, and very beautiful. A must do!

You could also do public bus to Puerto Viejo beaches and take bus to Sloth Sanctuary. Your kids will love it!

Ask your host about bike rentals with kids seats. There must be someone in town. Also use taxi. They are usually not too expensive.

Thanks for the info - sounds like getting around without a car will be no prob (a little adventure for us). Do you recommend any beaches along the caribbean coast that would be especially good for little ones? Thanks again.

Punta Uva past Puerto Viejo on the road to Manzanillo is a spectacularly beautiful beach.

Hi,

I've gone to this area with my son like 5 times. He was 1 year when we started and the last trip he was 5 years old.

Cahuita is tiny, and the beaches are great. All walking distances. But to do some great exploring, PV would be a better bet. We rented bikes with kid seats and rode, very slowly, out to Manzanillo and stopped at tons of secluded beaches along the way. This is a great day trip.

PV is also very walkable. If you want to go somewhere and dont' want to do bike ride, cabs are everywhere and cheap.

Hope this helps,
