Gratuity question

We are leaving in 2 weeks for Crystal Paradise. We have booked the 9 day Jungle tour. What we want to know is if anyone has any idea on how to tip? Do we tip at the end of our trip in one big sum amount? or do we tip everyday each person that has helped us or taken us somewhere? If we tip in one big amount, will everyone get a cut of it??

Thanks for any suggestions....

Generally, in Belize, you should tip daily. At the end of your vacation, there could be a few folks on a well deserved day off, and they may not get any of the "pot". Ten % is common, so figure accordingly. Also, the housekeeping staff should be tipped dialy, as they also are subject to change. A 1$us per person is acceptable. by the end of the time you will have accumulated some Belize coins. We also leave these behind for the housekeeping staff. Restaurants and bars are 10-15%, more for excellent service.

There are certainly variables but I consider 10% tacky. Please understand your tips are a huge part of Belizean income. The amount you tip will bear on the quality of service you get.

Again, What we thought we would do because we are staying at Crystal Paradise for the whole time we are in the Jungle. We are using them for our tours and they are feeding us and transporting us. and lodging us... that we would take 20 % of our total bill and give that to them. But like noted above.... we are concerned that not everyone involved get their cut??? so then do we leave a tip for each individual based on what they did for us??

Thanks for your input!

Since you are doing all of your activities with Crystal Paradise, which is family owned and operated, it should be just fine for you to leave one big tip at the end. Twenty percent would be very generous and appreciated by all the staff. I would check to see, however, if they have a service charge built into their fees. It is very common in Belize for resorts to add a 10% service charge to you bill, which is then distributed amongst all the staff according to a plan that must be submited and approved by the government. If so, you can always leave a bit extra for the staff, if you so feel inclined. Again, it will be appreciated by the folks there who work very hard.
