No question, San Ignacio, which is jungle central here in Belize. Belmopan is our political capital, and attractive small town but with no real tourism interest.

Thanks for replying so quickly!

What about Ian Anderson's Cave Branch Lodge? I'm just ignorant to your country, but that looks like it is in the jungle and has lots of things to do for activities?

Ian Anderson's is about 12 miles south of Belmopan and we had a blast there. It's a nice, jungly setting, though they made it way more upscale between our 2003 and 2009 visits which didn't improve it for us. Their guides and adventures are outstanding, though spendy.

Another terrific, jungly place we've stayed is Macal River Jungle Camp outside of San Ignacio.

You can visit the ATM cave from either but Caves Branch is much further from Xunantunich, Cahal Pech, and Tikal ruins.

My photos and recommendations are below. Happy trails!

I think you will find what you are looking for - Jungle and Adventure. At Ian's Anderson's Caves Branch.

The only thing attractive about Belmopan is it's close to the Belize Zoo and it's the start of the Hummingbird Highway which is a very scenic drive until you get close to Dangriga.

Ian Anderson's Cave Branch Lodge is a good choice for the area.

As for the two towns, it's San Ignacio hands down.
