Is walking on trails in the rainforest something that is only done in presence of an expert guide? Are there some places that have well marked and maintained trails that people typically walk on safely on their own? If so, in which ways do these trails differ from, for example, the walking trails at Calico Jack's, that I was told by the resort owner are to be used only together with their guides. Is walking on a trail in a rainforest without a guide a dumb, risky thing to do for someone who is not expert in doing such things, and discouraged for that reason? Personally, I think that a guide could add to the experience, as long as we could walk at our own very slow pace. But some in my group are feeling uneasy about the idea of the rainforest, after having heard that trail walking (at least in the one place I specifically inquired about it) should be done only with a guide.
