We will arrive in Belize City via a cruise ship in December where our itinerary allows 8 AM to 6 PM. What would you recommend we do: Cave Tubing or Altun Ha? We would prefer not to book the excursion through the cruise ship but rather through a good, reputable tour company in Belize. Any suggestions there? Thanks.

Donald from Zip Line Belize rocks! You will not be dissapointed if you choose to book your trip with him. The ruins are ok. The zip line is thrilling and the caves are awesome. You get your own private guide and you barely do any work! Donald manages your time and even takes you on an extra stop for free.

Hope you choose Donald @ http://www.ziplinebelize.bravehost.com/

Definitely check out Vitalino Reyes for your cavetubing trip. I went through him for our trip to the Belize Zoo followed by cavetubing trip to Caves Branch. His website is www.cave-tubing-belize.com. He was great and incredibly knowledgable on the animals of Belize as well as the country of Belize. The cavetubing is awesome and Vitalino or Vitamen as we called him was an excellent guide. He even picked us up at the Water Taxi in Belize City as we were coming from Ambergris Caye. We had a really great experience.

I have done both, not on the same trip

We just did zip lining - cave tubing and babboon perserve with Donald, highly recommend it

I did Altun Ha in Jan, with my daughter-- it was a long bus ride (but so is going to the zip line, and caves)

it was hot and we were only there maybe a 1/2 hour before we had to head back. It was nice but Tullum in Mexico is better if you want to see Mayan ruins

I used Island Marketing Ltd (Cayman), http://belizecruiseexcursions.com in late March for a cave tubing excursion and thought they were extraordinary. My daughter and I missed the meeting time because I got tender tickets too late to make the first independent excursion groups. (Get in line BEFORE they say the cruise ship says they will start handing them out.) Despite this, the local manager called their vans, identified one that was fairly nearby, and then raced us to meet the small group. The guide was a native Belizan and was very informative during the ride out to Jaguar Paw. The walk to the start of the float was through a beautiful jungle. The cave tubing itself was very fun! I definitely recommend this group!

And then, on the other hand, IF you can manage to get ashore early enough, and put in a clear SEVEN hours ashore, you can do both CAVE TUBING and ALTUN HA. The best way to do this is to get up early, and get aboard the tender which leaves every ship EARLIER than the others, with ship's staff on board for shore administration. That tender usually has about 40 or more spaces available, for the really early birds. Ask your shore excursions manager the night before, how to do this. You will received precise instructions on timings, location, etc. If you do this, tell us how it went. I know some other guests who did this and thoroughly enjoyed it, besides paying a very acceptable price for this great combo tour. Good luck!!!
