Tropical Storm Arthur

My husband and I are leaving for Ambergris Caye Sunday (6/8) for our honeymoon. I called the hotel (Belizean Shore Resort) to see the extent of the damage to the island/hotel. I fear they really tried to down play it, saying "no worries there was just heavy rain." Does anyne know the state of Ambergris Caye/San Pedro? Are Tropic Air flights back in service? Weather? Any info would be greatly appreciated:)

I'm going to jump this thread for a similar info request. We are headed down a few days after 312Bean for a visit to Bermuda Landing, Caye Caulker, and Placencia. We have a sailing trip, whale shark snorkel, and flight on Maya all booked. How are these areas and these bookings affected?

Also, is there a list anywhere of supplies or donations that are needed at this time?

I'm on Ambergris now, although south of town rather than north. There's some beach erosion, but it's an amazement to me how hard the resorts/hotels are working to get them back in shape.

Sunny and breezy this morning. There was some minor flooding in town, when I walked through yesterday afternoon, everything appears to be open and operating normally.

Water taxi and Tropic and Maya Air are flying. Some of the back streets still have huge pot holes which are filled with water. Wouldn't interfere with tourist activities though.

If you were planning on renting a golf cart, you might want to check the condition of the so-called road up north before doing so.

I have no idea about the water quality in Southern Belize, but there certainly aren't dead animals and such from the storm in the northern cayes. It poured, the water ran out to sea taking lots of sand with it.

I walked onto the dock this morning, the water was surprisingly clear, considering all the rain.

Thanks Jeanh for your ON THE SPOT report of the conditions there. We are coming in next friday and were worried about the people and the condition of the town. We have alredy packed some supplies to donate when we arrive. How much longer will you be there? Can you give a daily condition report has to how you see things going? This would be great to ease the minds of travelers wanting to know how things are coming along. Thanks again

Scubabarb has made these type of comments several times. The only problem you are likely to find is as jeanh says--big potholes with standing water on the back streets, and likely north of town. Think strong thunderstorm, not Katrina.

Shame on you scubabarb to post things if you are not there to see first hand, unless you are, please report what you know. Not what you think it's like
