Belize Itinerary Suggestions

Hi,

We are planning a trip to Belize in August and were thinking of the following itinerary:

1. Black Rock Lodge: 3 nights

2. Mahogany Hall: 3 nights

3. Matachica: 4 nights

We want to be able to have more meal options for our Cayo portion so we thought if we stay at Mahogany we could always grab a taxi to San Ignacio for dinner which wouldn't really be ideal at Black Rock. Also, would it be worthwhile to book a package with Matachica for breakfast, dinner and a few activities? Or are there a lot of options to book activities and eat elsewhere nearby?

I appreciate any advice anyone has.

All of these are great and good places to stay, but if dining out options are important to you, Mata Chica has loads of much better restaurants than you will find in the San Ignacio area, so certainly would not get a meal plan while there.

Breakfast is included in your Mata Chica stay, so no need to add that. Lots of great restaurants on the island, some walking distance to Mata Chica (Rojo's, Portofino). Or they also offer several complementary water taxis to town each day to try the restaurants in town. So no meal plan really necessary, even though the food at Mata Chica is very good.

San Ignacio also has good food & dining options in town. Mostly small, local places. Try Hodes, Sanny's Erva's and Hannah's (now called Ko-Ox-Han-Nah. Lots of choices and very inexpensive.

Lots of great food here in Cayo, and the cab from Bullet Tree to town is $1us per person(you'd walk a klick to and from the stop if you stayed at MH). Erva's is great, as is Flayva's. Fuego just opened, and is supreme. You should hit the Soul Project for great tacos and live music. Mr. Greedy's also, on Fridays, for free live music and good food. Serendib is Sri Lankan, with a Belizean flare.

Nice choices.

If you want Nature Reserves, Caves, Waterfalls and Mayan Ruins, it's around San Ignacio

If you Snorkel and want Parties, Karaoke and good drinks, it's in San Pedro

Best mainland beaches are around Hopkins, Placencia, Seine Bight, Punta Negra, etc...
