My wife and I would like to find a nice quality cabana on a quiet swimmable beach. Friends have recommended either Porto Fino, Mata Chica or Kanantok resorts. My wife is concerned from some of the posts here if the sea grass makes it too hard to swim off the beach. Any recommendations or comments appreciated.

Add to that Victoria House and Turtle Inn. Many inns rake the sea grass and have a pier for swimming. Should not interfere with swimming.

We stayed in 2002 and 2001 at Barnacle Bill's Beach Bungalows. It is in the Placencia peninsula, but not very near the village, it's actually in Maya Beach. It was pure paradise! They had kayaks and bikes, and only 2 cabanas so it was incredibly private. Also, there was no seagrass in this area, but a few coral heads so we went snorkeling and fishing off the beach. It was run by two expatriats from Denver- Bill and Adrienne Taylor. Their email was taylors@btl.net. It's been a few years, but I would imagine it's still there and still beautiful. Definitely one of my favorite places in the whole world!
