Universal City to Arroyo Grande... three hours?

Google says it takes a couple of minutes short of three hours to drive from Universal City to Arroyo Grande following the 101/154/101. Is this a realistic time?

Thank you.

Yes it is. Your mentioned route is the shortest as far as actual distance goes but you never know what type of traffic you will encounter on the 154 (which is a 2 lane highway that winds up and into Los Padres National Forest and then follows along Lake Cachuma). Your speeds will be slower on that portion unless you stay on the 101 all the way up.

Yep. About 3 hours via Highway 101.

Although some people swear by 154, I wouldn't put bank on it. It's a 55 mph 2 lane highway compared to the 4 lane 65 mph 101. If you get stuck behind a slow moving vehicle on 154, then you have the meter running down on any time savings. And if you encounter an accident (quite common along that route), you're basically stuck or turning back.

Advertising or just a textbook example of the unexplainable phenomenon that is person-who's-been-a-member-for-a-long-time-but-never-posted-before-choosing-a-long-fogotten-thread-to make-their-first-ever-post-but-not-adding-anything-of-substance-and-then-disappearing-never-to-be-heard-from-again?

No kidding, LDN_2009. I scratch my head every time one of these seriously old threads pops up with a comment from a newbie. Like, how in the world did they dig this one up? :- /

I don't remember, I'm sorry. But there were no hold-ups I can remember so three hours sounds about right.

Seems to be a very casual policy. Seen it done sooner. And seen it not done at all, like here, often.
