LA sightseeing trip from Anaheim

Hi there, we are staying at Hyatt Regency Orange County Anaheim for 7 nights in April next year as part of a 2 week trip between San Francisco and San Diego. Although we will have a rental car, we would prefer to do an escorted tour of LA / Hollywood etc rather than taking the car (we figured at least with a tour we get to find out a lot more about what we are looking at!). Can anyone recommend a company that will pick up at / close to our hotel that will take in all the major sights (Walk of Fame, Hollywood Sign, Beverly Hills etc). We will have two children with us (aged 9 and 5) so ideally one that gives us time for toilet stops etc !!. TIA.

Move to LA for two nights (or so) to sightsee. It's more than an hour each way and will be torture for your kids. The 5 year old will be miserable in the bus for 7+ hours (commute plus tour), better to just walk out of your hotel and sightsee.

Thanks for the advice but we have already booked and paid for the 7 nights! Plus we don't really want to stay in downtown LA with the kids, hence booking for Anaheim for the full duration.

Someone will come by soon enough to recommend a tour that you're looking for, but I will suggest that you drive yourselves up to Hollywood and take a tour from there. Lots of parking at hollywood/highland where you can spend as little time as tou like with the walk of fame and then pick up a tour right there.

Two of the Major Tour companies, Starline Tours and Grayline Tours offer Tours to the LA area from Anaheim, as well as some other smaller tour companies.

Tours though as suggested from the LA area are said to be much better, and include a Hop on Hop off option for Tours that is a better option likely if you can get yourself to LA.

However, I dont know how fun that kind of Tour is really going to be fun for young children, theres not much of interest to them really. If all you want to see is the Walk of Fame, and area around there, thats likely to only take you a few hours. And there are lots more interesting things to do in LA such as the California Science Center which is fun and has a Space Shuttle on Exhibit there, as well as the Griffith Observatory which is neat to visit at night, and the show there is very good.

Have a look at Anaheim411.com. They are a smaller company based in Anaheim and I have found them to be exceptionally helpful in suggesting tours for our family.

As I understand, they have much smaller vans and buses so smaller groups, less herding around and more time at stops.

Have not actually taken our trip yet so can't comment on that, but if it matches their customer service and communication it should be terrific.

downtown? Said nothing about downtown - and sights are not downtown.

Seriously, a tour will be awful for the kids. I like the suggestion of getting your own car and driving yourselves to the places you want to see (Hollywood takes about an hour). I suggest places like La Brea Tar Pits, the Grove, Santa Monica Pier, Getty Museum. Not all of this can be accomplished in a day, but with your own car, it's doable. Not at all able to see both Santa Monica and other places on a tour from Anaheim.

The Anaheim Tour Company (Also booked under Anaheim 411) is absolutely the best tour company....family owned and owner operated. They are great with customer service.

As far as seeing the sights in LA/Hollywood....I would suggest combining that with either a trip to a studio or beaches because it is a little dry, especially with kids in tow.

>>>will take in all the major sights (Walk of Fame, Hollywood Sign, Beverly Hills etc)<<<

Well the WOF and Hollywood sign is about 30 minutes and neither is what I'd consider a highlight of LA, but I'd look at the grand tour of LA/Hollywood from the Anaheim Tour Company.

I think driving yourself is better because you can decide how long you want in each area, if you want to stop someplace that looks interesting for lunch or dinner etc.

But to ElleBein's point, if you had asked about LA sightseeing before you booked and paid for 7 nights in Anahein, few people would have recommended 7 nights in Anaheim. Anaheim is really only a good place to stay for Disneyland. For sightseeing LA the consensus of the local experts is to stay in "LA", whether that means Santa Monica, West Hollywood, Hollywood or Downtown (among others).

I tend to think that the best thing to do is as has been mentioned - drive yourself to Hollywood and then take one of the many tours available there - www.starlinetours.com - a) you will have a better selection of tours and b) you can take breaks on the way to/from LA and/or drive yourself around LA a bit as well if you saw something on the tour that you really liked and want to go back to. There's not really much to see as a tourist on most of the drive between Hollywood and Anaheim - what there is to see would be between downtown LA and Hollywood, for the most part, and if you get a good tour, they'll take you past those places with narration anyway.
