Disneyland 2014, March or April?

We are planning a trip to Southern California in mar/apr 2014. We were planning on arriving in LA march 16 and heading home on April 11. Initially we planned on staying the first 7 days in anaheim and going to disneyland that week, ie 16th to 23rd of march. But reading the forums etc i think spring break may be on around then???? Just wondering now if we might be better off doing this in the last week instead ie 4th to 11th April? I would really appreciate any input.

Who knows, with Easter Sunday being so late this year, the April dates might be just slightly better. Many schools, and it seems like more are switching every year from a holiday around Easter to a fixed week, such as the third week of March, or after 7 weeks of the semester for example.

Disney starts to expand its hours the second week of March, and will go through the end of April due to the late Easter Sunday (April 20th), for Spring Break.

Welcome to the forums Annette G.

I would avoid March and April if you want lower crowds at Disneyland its not likely to happen during those months. If you can push your trip into early May it would likely be better crowdwise. Since not only is March and April busy because of the various College Spring Breaks, its also a very popular time for School Competitons and Conventions in the area around Disneyland. And at the Anaheim Convention Center which is located across the street from Disneyland.

Its a little far out to see some of the various competitions that also may be going on during that time, but, I can allready see quite a few for next year by looking at the Calendar of events for the area Hotels.

We have just spent a week there. we arrived first week of May> The crowds were pretty much non existant. So definately try to plan your trip for May. Only draw back was a few rides were closed for maintenace in the quiet period.

Doesnt really matter as there is plenty of others!!

Thank you for your input everyone, it is greatly appreciated. Unfortunately due to work commitments we can't delay the trip. So we will just have to make the best of it :). Thanks again.

If you must go during those March or April dates you mentioned, I would also consider the April dates. They may have somewhat less crowds as there seem to be more College Spring Breaks as well as Conventions ect in March vs April.

Just dont push your dates any farther into April, as said Easter Sunday for 2014 is April 20th, and the majority of U.S. Secondary and Elementary Schools will take the full week before that day as their Spring Breaktime, so many will be comming in on April 11, so April 11 through April 20th will be very busy at Disneyland.

There would also likely be Gay Days ( an unofficial event) at Disneyland during the first part of your visit. A mini Gay Days is usally the first weekend of April, which will make it busier for that weekend. But no info will be out for quite a while on dates for 2014 likely.

Your info doesnt say where you are from, but, just in case.....you should also be aware that Australian and New Zealand residents can purchase a special 10 day Pass (Parkhopper ticket ) thats likely to still be offered in 2014. Its about the same cost as a 5 day Disneyland Parkhopper ticket and is available at a travel agent in those areas such as Flight Centre ect.

If you would like help finding somewhere to stay ect you can give us a budget per night and what kind of accomdations you are looking for. Most places to stay closest to the Disneyland Main Entrance are going to be standard Motels that are very convenient to visiting Disneyland since they are directly across the street from the Entrance, with a few Hotels in a little farther walking distance. And there is also the Art Shuttle service that goes from Disneyland to alot of area Hotels within about a 2 mile radius for a small fee per person.

Here is a Map of Hotels in the Disneyland area so you can see where things area located. The Disneyland Main Entrance is off of Harbor blvd near where it says "East Shuttle Area" on the Map.
