Anaheim with no car?

We are thinking about visiting Anaheim in October but don't want the hassle of a car. We would like to visit most of the theme parks, a city tour of LA plus some time at the beach. Is this possible to do using public transport or would we be better based somewhere else?

Yes, between Public and Mass Transit, it is doable.

Public Transit includes the OCTA Bus System, the LA Metro Bus system, the ART local shuttle system, plus both Amtrak and Metrolink Trains.

Mass Transit includes Gray Line Anaheim, Starline Tours, and things like Shopping Malls running their own shuttles for a fee.

There are a couple of Top Questions here at the Anaheim Forum that discuss how to get around without a rental vehicle.

Many folks come and stay in the Anaheim area for a couple of weeks and don't bother getting a rental car.

Some decide to split up their stay, staying in the Anaheim area, and then opting to stay in San Diego and the Hollywood area of Los Angeles, which also have good access to public/mass transit.

Anaheim is easy to do, getting to LA is easy, but getting to the beaches on public transportation while doable is time consuming. It can take longer to get to a nearby beach. See below for an example using Google Maps.

A cab would be around $60 each way, but maybe worth it for a 30 minute cab ride vs a 90 minute bus ride each direction.

One option for a beach from the Disneyland area, take the Amtrak/Metrolink to either San Clemente or Oceanside.

You combine a nice train ride with a day at the beach. One drawback, only limited trains stop at San Clemente (all stop at Oceanside).

On weekends, the Metrolink Train system offers a $10 pass good from Friday Night to Sunday night.

Thanks for all your advice. We are still doing our homework! Also the hotel we are looking at is next to the Convention Centre, are there areas nearby that we can go out to at night for dinner/drinks on foot?

Yes, plenty of food options near the Anaheim Convention Center. Plenty are at the Anaheim GardenWalk, also some options walking up Harbor Blvd towards Disneyland. I like Mimi's Cafe, The Pizza Press, Tony Roma's and more.

At AGW, I like almost all the choices.
