disneyland at Christmas

Hi,

When does Disneyland get decorated for Christmas.I would love to see it but I dont want to be away from home on Xmas day.So Nov or Jan would be perfect.

It is decorated now. The holiday shows began on the 12th of November and will run through January 6th. Fireworks nightly with snow falling on Main Street in Disneyland Park. Fantasmic on Saturdays and Sundays. I read the other day that for Ephinany, or Three Kings Day, there will be some special things going on, such as Mariachi singers and tamales will be sold. However, January is normally a month with many rainy days. Disney California Adventure Park is decorated too, with old timey garland on Buena Visa Street and decorations in Cars Land. The Grand Californian Hotel has a beautiful tree and you can enter the lobby from Downtown Disney.

The traditional Candlelight Processional ceremony, with singers, orchestra, and celebrity narrator of the biblical account of Christ's birth runs for 20 days this year, beginning December 1st. Dick Van Dyke will be the narrator on Dec. 12 and 13. Kurt Russel a little earlier in the month. Standing room only in Disneyland Park on Main Street (Town Square) section.

Also, beginning this Friday, Knott's Berry Farm theme park - 6 miles to the east of Disneyland and a short bus ride over - has their western Ghost town decorated, crafts, carolers, and they have an ice skating show in their big theater on weekends (later in December, every day but Wednesday).

Opps - correction: Knott's begins their holiday celebration on our Thanksgiving Day, this Thursday.

I assume you are planning for the future and not this Christmas? You have to look at the calendar for every year, but in general they start the second Monday in November and run through the first Monday in January.

If you are planning for the future, look at the United States Thanksgiving Day Holiday week, it is best to avoid that week due to large crowds. Also many schools get the second half of December and first week of January off, so a time of large crowds, and if you can plan around it, best to avoid. The first half of December is usually great, smaller crowds and nightly fireworks and the Christmas Parade (weather permitting). Also maybe the week of November 18th in 2013. (Full week before US Thanksgiving).

Dates for Christmastime this year are Nov 12, 2012 to Jan 7th, 2013. As said, the starting and ending date for Christmastime vary from year to year a little. Most of the time, that date is not announced till sometime in Sept/Oct time period, so that makes it a little harder to preplan a visit in Nov and Jan if you wanted to see Christmastime.

However, if you were to plan a visit for the week after Thanksgiving, thats usually a good time crowdwise to visit Disneyland. And since Christmastime at Disneyland always starts sometime in mid Nov, so if you went later in that month, Christmastime will have already started.

I agree with RR, take some time and visit Knott's Merry Farm, a lot of great shows and attractions, including some classic plays (A Christmas Carol and Gift of the Magi), the Peanuts Christmas Lighting, with Linus talking about the real meaning of Christmas, etc. Also the Christmas Ice Skating show...
