I'm planning for a short tour with my family (with 1 young child < 2 yrs old) to the East Coast (6 Days, 5 Nights) covering Washington DC, Philadelphia, New York City and Boston in mid/end Mar. Given the short duration, I'll have to stick to a "whirlwind" schedule covering the "must see" places in these places. My tentative itinerary is as follows:
Tue (arrival in early morning): Washington DC
Wed: Depart Washington DC to Philadelphia (late pm)
Thur: Depart Philadelphia to NYC (late pm)
Sat: NYC to Boston (early am)
Sun: Depart Boston (late am)
I would be renting a car from Washington airport and depositing it in Boston Airport.
I will appreciate if anyone can advise on the places to go in these cities, and also, if travelling by car to these attractions is advisable, vis-a-vis public transport.
Also, how is the traffic and parking conditions in these cities? Would the traffic conditions, toll and parking fee justify for taking the public transport? Would there be any areas to avoid in selecting an accommodation in these cities? Its also obvious from my initial search that hotel accommodations near the attractions are abt USD100 to 200 range.
I know this itinerary is crazy, but would appreciate any advise to make it possible. My intentions for this trip is for us to "soak in" and appreciate the unique histories attached to these areas since these places were first habitated in the early years of this country.
