Nice place to meet a friend between Mtl, QC and Greenville...

Hi guys:

I am looking for a nice spot where to meet a friend. She lives in Greenville, NH and I am from Montreal, QC (Canada). We thought of meeting half way somewhere in Vermont - White mountains, Montpellier or Burlington (a friend suggested it would be a nice place to meet). Not sure where to look.

Meeting half way means about 3.5hr to 4hr drive for each of us. We plan on returning home the same day.

I am open to driving or taking a train. Same for my friend.

We are looking for a nice area where we could have a friendly chat and possibly have a walk in a nice park or something like that.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a million

Montpelier would be an excellent choice. About 2 ish hours from Montreal, not sure where Greenville is. Lots of great restaurants for lunch, take a tour of the capitol building, and walk through town.

Montpelier is about half way between the two places. It's no more than a 2.5 hour drive to either Montreal or Southern New Hampshire (provided the weather is good and there isn't a lot of construction.)

Montpelier is a GREAT town. http://www.montpelier-vt.org/

They have a bike path that is good for a stroll but don't miss Hubbard Park. It overlooks the town and is a really fantastic place.

At the top of East State Street is Vermont College. They have a wonderful green and a really wonderful little art gallery -- The T.W. Wood Gallery.

The downtown area is really nice to walk around too. It's fairly small, the shops are unique and the people are usually very friendly.

Sarducci's is a very good (and popular) Italian restaurant in town. Don't miss it.

Come to Burlington - on the shores of beautiful Lake Champlain. You can eat at any of a number of restaurants on Church St - the pedestrian mall in the center of the city. Try Leunig's for a more euopean flair or Three Tomatoes for some reasonably priced, tasty Italian or the New England Culinary Institute's (NECI) commons for a good variety. Then, you can walk just two blocks east to the waterfront where you'll find benches, swings and small parks from which to watch the boats. You can even explore ECHO - a relatively new addition to the waterfront that has exhibits about the Lake Champlain basin.

West...two blocks west to the lake, not east. Sorry about that. You wouldn't get it wrong - the lake is obvious when you are here. But, it is west.
