Texas coast resorts

We are thinking of having a quiet Texas gulf coast holiday. Has anyone got any ideas. We would like to be able to walk on long beaches but not near big cities. Good Hotel or resort

Check out South Padre Island.

Second Octoboy's recommendation of South Padre. Probably the best beach in the state. Do be aware that our beaches here aren't the soft white sand ones you see in the Florida adverts. Sand is darker--not bad, just different.

You might want to look at North Padre Island. Lotsa wide open spaces and beaches free of tourists in the National Seashore. Water and beaches may not be quite as nice as South Padre but much closer to international airports like IAH and SAT.

We will be driving from New Orleans to Mc Allen Texas. What are places to enjoy by going the coastal route or even inland some. We have 5 days to do the drive

We are driving from Austin in late April and would like a beach resort recomendation with a nice beach to relax on. Maybe little shopping. South Padrea or something closer?

This thread is quite old. If you wish for your query to be seen I suggest you start your own topic!

Resorts are mostly found on South Padre, lotsa condos along Mustang Island near Corpus Christi. Look at Sand Castle and Port Royal to start.
