Budget Newport with teens and elderly! Help!

Help! I'm having a vacation next week with three girls (10-17years) and my mother who CAN walk but not fast or for long periods.

Any ideas about budget friendly activities that would give us the most bang for our buck?

We are saying in LIttle Compton...

Any replies are VERY much appreciated!!

Go out on a boat. The Jamestown/Newport Ferry is $18 for adults, $8 for children, $10 for adults after 4pm. It will take you through beautiful Newport harbor, to Rose Island where you can pay $5 to tour Rose Island light house, to Jamestown which has some nice lunch spots a short walk from the dock, to Fort Adams and back to Newport. There are kiosks along the wharves where you can book other types of boat tours. There is also a harbor shuttle that is the cheapest of all, I think it is $5 that runs from Perotti Park to Fort Adams and back

Here is a detailed trip report of another visitor's budget trip to Newport.

Actually, there is a Groupon today for the Jamestown/Newport Ferry, $20 for 2, almost half price.
