Oregon Harley Ride in June 2013

I'll be taking a solo trip up to Oregon in early June and will be riding my Harley. I'm looking for interesting places to visit/stay, and fun things to see. I don't really have any route in mind, my only restriction is my time which is June 1 - 15, otherwise I can go where I want and see what. Small out of the way towns, roads through the middle of nowhere, interesting things to see--I'm pretty open. Coast line or inland, either/both are fine. What are the "must see's"? I've riden to Crater Lake and Mt. St. Helens, so I don't plan to repeat those, I've also riden the southern oregon coastline. Not a partier nor drinker, so no interest in bars or the bar scene, and no big cities. Back road hidden jewels are what I'm looking for--places to stay, places to eat, things to see/do, etc. Thanks!!

If you want out of the way small towns, and since you're coming from Utah, one of my favorites east of the Cascades is Joseph/Enterprise at the foot of the Wallowa Mts. Absolutely stunning area and cute, small western-type towns.

Another of my favorite areas is hwy 26 E from Vale to Redmond. You could exit I-84 at Ontario to Vale, or continue on to Baker City on I-84 and wonder out through Sumpter (old gold mining town) and pick up hwy 26 near unity.

den- as usuall has great suggestions and what I would have recommended. I also like highway 19- that goes through the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument up through Condon from hwy 26 near John Day.

Best bet for good weather in June would be to stick to the eastern side of the Cascades.

Thanks for your comments, I'll check out the routes you've mentioned. Speaking about weather, is there still snow in the Oregon mountains in early June? Should I plan to stay down on the valley floors for my rides?

Its likely the main passes/roadways will be clear of snow- some of the lesser traveled roads may have snow on them. Another nice roadtrip is Century Drive west of Bend- although June would be the earliest it might be open...

You may already be aware, but there are specific scenic byways designated throughout the state- with recommended seasons, etc

“Small out of the way towns, roads through the middle of nowhere, interesting things to see ...”

This pretty much describes Northeast Oregon.

It is too bad you will miss this:

But you can still take some of the rides:

Take this route starting in Baker city:

Stop by here:

And make sure you cross over the bridge at Oxbow, OR into Idaho and ride down through the canyon to the dam. Then take a jet boat ride:

When you exit this loop at La Grande, pick up the Elkhorn Scenic Byway at Haines and ride to through Granite to Sumpter:

It it's a weekend you can ride the choo choo train:

From Sumpter you can take another great ride ride west, visit the fossil beds, and continue on with your trip:

Hey thanks! The routes you've suggested are awesome--especially Hell's Canyon, that looks like it will be a great ride.
