Ideas for stop betwn Mesa Verde Natl Park & Santa Fe

Planning a quick trip to Northwest area of New Mexico. Will go to Acoma and Mesa Verde (CO) then circle around to Santa Fe. Not too interested in Chama/train ride, unless we hear otherwise. Other suggestions between Mesa Verde and Santa Fe?!

Acoma Pueblo is not between Mesa Verde and Santa Fe, but near Albuquerque. From Mesa Verde I'd head to Taos and stay there a night to see Taos Pueblo. Also nice museums and some shopping there, good food and mountain hiking.

Good to hear idea about Taos - been there years ago but wasn't sure about staying there as opposed to somewhere else in between.

We do realize where Acoma is - making a big loop from there, up to Mesa Verde, then on around and down to Santa Fe.

Thanks so much for the information! That helps us decide!

If you enjoyed the ruins at Mesa Verde, there are a number of other ruins you can visit en route to Santa Fe, depending on your route: Aztec Ruins National Monument, Salmon Ruins (near Bloomfield, NM), Chimney Rock National Monument (near Pagosa Springs, CO), Bandelier National Monument and Puye Ruins (both near Los Alamos, NM). Each of these can be seen in a couple of hours. The amazing ruins in Chaco Canyon are also nearby, but they require a more significant time commitment.

Fabulous ideas. Will only add Durango, too. If through Mancos near Mesa Verde, eat (esp. breakfast) at Absolute Bakery and Cafe. In Aztec, close to Ruins, which can be seen in quick time, good eats at Main Street Bistro.

Oh, great suggestions - I always love eating tips and we try to only eat at independents while on a trip. And - my husband was already interested in a stop in Durango so now it's on the list! Thanks so much.
