TR MGM Grand with Free Buffet 23/06 - 30/06

Just returned from Vegas after a trip to celebrate my parents birthdays. This was my 4th trip and their first.

We flew Continental from Manchester to Newark connecting to Las Vegas. The flight from Man to Newark was brilliant. Had really lovely food ( a beef dish and a snack of a toasted chicken & cheese sandwich.) The Movies on demand were fab. Had a good choice of recent films and old classics like James Bond films and hitchcock. They also had lots of TV programs. I managed to watch the first 6 episodes of the new series of House.

Immigration in newark was no problem. The was really friendly and cracked a lot of jokes. It took about 70 mins from leaving the plane, clearing immigration, changing terminals, clearing security again and getting to our next gate. My parents walk really slowly so we weren't rushing.

Flight from Newark to LV boarded on time but left over an hour late. This was due to 27 planes in front of us waiting to take off! The flight had pay per view TV and as an apology they did not charge for it. The TV was the TV going out live that night. Only drinks on this service, no food. Continental do not serve food on flights leaving at 7.30pm.

In spite of late departure we landed on time!

Got in cab to MGM. I sat in the front and was leaning round talking to my parents when I noticed we were going through the tunnel. I immediately asked the driver what he was doing. I asked why he would take the tunnel rather than tropicana which was the quickest and most direct route. He started apologising and saying he wasn't thinking. He did try and say that there were road works and it would take longer. He was definitely trying it on. He then stopped the meter and didn't turn it back on until we were outside the Luxor. He did not get a tip!

I'll continue in a reply

Arrived at MGM to be told they were fully booked and only had a room on the ground floor. They allocated us a better room that would be available the next day after 3pm. Our first room had a lovely view of the side of the Ka theatre. They left us a messgae about 1pm the next day telling us our new room was ready. This was on the 28th floor overlooking the pool. Could see right up the strip and also had a good view of planes landing at the airport.

A good tip for anyone staying on floors 21-28 is to go through the doors at the end of the elevator lobby where there are 2 lifts supposed to be for Skyloft customers only.

I wont go into detail about everything we did but highlights are:

Buffet: Charged all day passes to our room each day and they never appeared on the bill. The food is the same everyday. It was good to know we could nip in just for a quick slice of pizza and a drink if we wanted. The longest we had to queue was 15 mins.

Pool: It did get evry busy, particularly on Friday and Saturday. We never had trouble finding beds together but we were at the pool by 12 everyday. We liked the pool at the end of the complex as no children were allowed and they did not have speakers playing music. Could hear the music coming from other pools. Drinks and food at the pool are very expensive. I nipped out at lunch to get soething from the food court and had no problems carrying food and drinks into the pool in spite of a big sign saying you couldn't

Shows: I had prebooked Bette Midler tickets via Travelzoo before we left for $45 and the 2nd mezz. When we arrived at the theatre the 2nd mezz was closed and we were moved to front orchestra. The seats are normally over $200. That was a highlight. Bette was amazing. Her jokes and language was flithy and crude but this is what I expected. I'm not sure why anyone would go and see Bette Midler and not expect that Kind of thing.

Got tickets for Mystere from the half price book. Paid $65. When got to TI to pick them up he gave us tickets 3 rows from the front. In hindsight might have prefered our original seats high up as would have got a better view of the arial acts. This show was amazing. My dad has not stopped tlaking about it yet. Wished we'd gone earlier than our last night as would have booked to see other CDS shows.

Fat Elvis was brilliant. Would tell anyone to go to see him. The seating area was small so we sat a stools by some slots. No one played on any slots near where he was performing.

The sandwiches from Canters Deli in TI are amazing. We shared 1 sandwich and a salad between 3 and couldn't eat it all. We're vey big eaters too!

All in all our trip was brilliant even though my father caught a terrible cold and I've trapped a nerve in my neck.

Only down side was missing our connection home in newark due to bad weather. The airport was chaos and had to queue for 90 mins to get booked on another flight leaving the next day. Luckily we made it onto a flight that night on the standby list. My luggage on the otherhand is still in newark. Have been promised it should arrive tomorrow- only 48 hours after me!
