 Drinking rules

Can someone please advise on the drinking laws. I know over 21's can consume alcohol but there are restrictions on 18 to 21 yr old. can anyone please clarify these rules including hotel rules on alcohol. Due to visit in August this year.

Thanks

I am guessing you live in England. Unlike Europe, under 21's cannot drink alchol anywhere in the US. I'm not sure what you mean by hotel rules.

Yes I am from the UK.I was under the impression that between 18 and 21 they could drink in private (private house) what my question is are they allowed to consume alcohol in a hotel that they are staying in. For example if they were staying at the hilton could they consume alcohol in there as they are residents.

I would think that a hotel room would not be considered "in public". This is from la-legal.com:

What is the drinking age in Louisiana?

The legal drinking age in Louisiana is 21, it is not 18.

LSA R.S. 93:11 makes it illegal to sell alcoholic beverages to anyone under the age of twenty-one years.

LSA R.S. 93:12 makes it illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to purchase or have public possession of an alcoholic beverage.

LSA R.S. 93:13 makes it illegal for anyone to buy alcoholic beverages for anyone under the age of 21 years except for a parent, guardian or spouse of the person under 21.

So, it would appear that someone under 21 years cannot buy or have in his possession (in public) any alcoholic beverage. It would also appear that it would not be illegal for someone under 21 to drink at home if a parent buys the booze.

He will be fine if he is with you guys as his parent/guardian and you buy the drinks for him. There are exemptions in LA for family groups

Thanks for the link, tmesaint. It should be noted, however, that persons under the age of 21 can only be admitted to a bar or lounge if there are no gambling devices (video poker machines) present.

Even if there are no gambling devices present, admission of persons over the age of 18 but under the age of 21 is completely at the discretion of the bar/lounge owner. There is no law stating that ages 18-21 MUST be admitted.
