Family vacation ideas in Kentucky?

We live in Michigan and have a 4,2 and 5 month old. Would love to go on a family vacation and was thinking Kentucky. Any ideas where to go?

I have never planned a vacation before so do not know where to start.

There are a lot of great places to see in Kentucky, especially for the outdoorsman.

Cumberland Falls is spectacular. Lake Cumberland or Dale Hollow Lake are great for boating, especially houseboats.

Land Between The Lakes.

Cumberland Gap National Historical Park.

Natural Bridge State Park.

Mammoth Cave National Park.

Big South Fork Nat'l Recreation Area

Those are just a few. Kentucky is a very underrated place, very beautiful.

In addition to the great nature spots mentioned above, there are also a lot of historic and cultural things to see that are also family-friendly. The Shaker Village in Harrodsburg is great (kids can meet the farm animals, see demonstrations of candle-making and other Shaker crafts, see how the Shakers lived, and you can take a riverboat ride along the Kentucky River). You can explore lots of Abe Lincoln-related places (birthplace log cabin, etc). You could check out the Louisville Slugger Museum, the Muhammad Ali Museum, or the Great American Dollhouse Museum. See an outdoor play or musical at My Old Kentucky Home State Park, or watch the horses work out at Keeneland in Lexington. Lots of choices! The Kentucky Tourism website might give you more ideas as well. Good luck!
