My husband and I are looking for a romantic getawy location, preferably close to the IL border. We were thinking maybe soemthing in Putnam county. We would like a B&B to stay at, and some historical sights and shops to browse. Any ideas?

What about Vincennes in Knox County, just across the river from Illinois in southern Indiana? There is a bed and breakfast in nearby Bicknell and plenty of history in Vincennes, oldest city in the state and county seat of what was the largest and first county in the state. There are a couple of nice motels on North Sixth Street. Downtown -- or what used to be downtown before the advent of the malls -- perhaps I should say Main Street has a number of interesting craft and antique shops.

Try McKinley House Bed and Breakfast, it's on US 40 just east of Brazil, IN. I personally know the owner, Julie - I used to work with her a few years ago.

Good luck!

The Duneland Beach Inn in Michigan City looks great. Lake Michigan is the greatest!
