weekend trips

We are from India and came to bloomington for a business trip of 3 weeks, till 23rd November. In the weekends we are planning to explore Illinois. This is our first trip to USA. Please help us to get some itinerary , how to reach the destination and things to do for the 3 weekends (10&11 ,17 & 18 , 22&23) .

An idea of what your interests are and/or what you enjoy doing when traveling would greatly aid in providing recommendations.

go down to southern illinois on your first weekend---the autumn colors *should* still be decent... places to go are giant city state park and the shawnee national forest....

then, come up to chicago for a weekend.....

you will need a car, however....

I agree with the above recommendation of giant city state park and the shawnee national forest.

Were I you, I'd come to Chicago for Thanksgiving and take in the parade and Chriskindlemarket (http://www.christkindlmarket.com.)

Starved Rock State Park (http://starvedrockstatepark.org) has very nice hiking. We also enjoy staying in the lodge (actually, one of the cabins at the lodge) but if you have small children you may want to choose the water park down the road (http://www.grizzlyjacksresort.com) which is definitely more modern.

The Galena area, in the far NW corner of the state is very scenic, but may prove to be too much of a drive for you. Closer would be all of the cute little beach towns in SW Michigan Harbor Country, which, although off season, is still packed with outdoors fun things to do.

Have fun!
