Ever Hear of "YMT Vacations"?

Just checking-- perhaps I'm overly suspicious after some of the problems some travelers have had with 'agencies'. I hadn't heard of this one until I saw an ad in the Sunday Parade Magazine. They say they specialize in Hawaii and have had an office in Honolulu since 1967.

The ad features a 2-Week, 4-Island escorted trip Nov. 1 -- from $1728 pp, double occ. Airfare extra.

Your Man Tours has been around a long time.

But, I really don't know anything about them.

There are some threads.

Dusty -- Mahaolo. After reading some of the consumer complaints about "Your Man Tours", I think I see why they're only using the initials in the ad. The few positive remarks were by the sort of consumer who's satisfied to be led around to mediocre hotels, use second-rate transport, etc. and thinks he'd saving money. (Well, he may be, but the experience is also cheap.)

There have been plenty of movies made about escorted tours that capture this 'bargain' experience. The first I remember was "If It's Tuesday, It Must Be Belgium". (Not to say there are no excellent escorted tours out there!)

Something for Everyone, eh?

I have gone on a couple of tours with YMT. They are a good experience at a good price. Yes, they do not use top resort hotels, nor do you pay for them. The hotels are adequate and the tours are very comprehensive for the included price.

There are plenty of optional tours if you would like to pay for them (as on a cruise), or you can have time on your own to explore or relax, so you do NOT have the "if it's Tues, it's Belguim" kind of experience.

What I have heard from people on these trips is almost always favourable as the price is right and you see a lot. The complainers are the people that want the 5 star trip and forgot that they haven't paid for that...and these few are the people that post reviews as they have an ax to grind.

ChiSue, I have friends that have used YMT (not for Hawaii) for a number of trips and really have had good things to say about them. They are a retired couple who enjoy traveling but not necessarily the adventure of figuring it out as they go.

As the previous poster said, the price is right and the trips seem to be good value for money.

I think it's really a "to each his own" sort of thing, but I wouldn't discount YMT. The last trip I remember my friends taking was to the Pacific Northwest -- sounded like a good itinerary (some train, some bus, maybe?) and a good pace. From their reviews, I would probably try one of their trips. I am not really a tour person but on the other hand, I do enjoy being with a group. And as someone who spends lots of time on travel logistics, I think it would be nice to have someone else do all the work :)

Just came back from an Alaska/Canadian Rockies YMT trip15 horrible days. Worst experience I have ever had. Cheap it was in what you received, not so cheap in price. On ship our room was over a generator floor vibrated and so much noise you couldn't stand to be in our room. All hotels were dirty and smelly except one in Banff. One room we stayed in was in the basement, no air conditioning and no screens on the windows. These are only a few of the problems. There were at least 10-12 other couples on this tour that said they will NEVER use YMT again.

Sue, my mom and stepdad did a trip to Hawaii with YMT(Your Man Tours) last year. They were okay with it. They are in their 80's and for them it was more that everything was taken care of and so planned out. Yes they could add on excursions if they wanted to. They did four islands. I have no idea what kind of price they paid.

Honestly, I could have planned that trip for them and I think they would have been happier! First of all, they are up there in age. Four islands is a lot.

I would have cut it down to 2 islands and put them at better hotels....not 5 star, just better. In Waikiki, they were at either the Ohana East or West...got changed at the last minute. Maui, it was the Maui Beach Hotel(Kahului) odd location I thought. They were in 2 hotels on the Big Island, I believe the Kona Seaside and the Hilo Seaside. Kauai I'd have to look at wizardpub, I know it when I see the name. Right near the Cocoanut Marketplace.

Yes, YMT has been around forever.

I did a trip like that to Alaska and Canadian Rockies this past July. We went with our local radio station! It was such a good time! Sights were beautiful and ymt did a good job of making sure we were taken care of the whole time. My husband and I really enjoyed ourselves. I called back and asked for 2011 information. My daughter and her family are doing this trip next year!

Evidentially your tour did not include the Lobstick Lodge in Jasper where all the rooms were in the basement and smelled. Lobstick had no air conditioning and our room had no screens on the windows. Reported 3 times before we got to open a window. Or perhaps the Sandman Hotel in Calgary that was located downtown and the outside road noise kept you awake half the night. And it was 20 minutes from the airport. Or the night that we paid an extra $35 each because the bus driver had arranged for this awsome dinner and when we got there we had to wait over 2 hours for our meal and if you ordered the fish it was so rotten that everyone sent theirs back. Our requests for some things due to medical conditions of both myself and my husband were ignored. I certainly can't say this was a great time. It wonderful to hear that someone had a good time on the trip, because I don't know of anyone on our bus that didn't have some kind of complaint. Lucky YOU!

Gotta say that this is the first post where I have seen so many "one post wonders"! Both good and bad! Interesting...
