Places to stop along blue ridge

Hi me and my girlfriend (late 20s) are travelling from Washinton DC to Blue ridge mountains this June. We are planning on stopping in Blue ridge or Ellijay for 2 nights to do some water activities and hiking. From there we would go to Ashville then onto Charleston and Savannagh. We would have about 5 days to get to Savannagh. Where would people recommend to stay and any activities we could do along the way would be greatly appreciaited. Thanks for any help. Ger

You would be better served asking this question in the "road trip forum". Click on "browse forums -all" above your question, and then click on roadtrip.

You did not mention what kind of water activities you were interested in, but there is good white water rafting just across the Tn line.

If you would advise the route you will be taking to each city mentioned, we can probably give more advice.

I think you really need to map this out to see the distances involved.

I think people get confused about "Blue Ridge". There are the Blue Ridge mountains, the Blue Ridge parkway and Blue Ridge GA. Blue Ridge GA is on the western side of the state.

Your routing of Washington DC to Blue Ridge or Ellijay and then back to Asheville NC before going to Charleston or Savannah just doesn't make sense - especially if you only have 5 days to do all of that.

If you want to experience some of the Blue Ridge Parkway, you could go to Front Royal VA and drive along through the Shenandoah National Park and then on along some of the Blue Ridge Parkway

If you want to drive just some of the BRP, then head south and get on somewhere in VA or North Carolina. The speed limit is 45 mph and it's slow driving although beautiful.

If you want to go to Asheville, then I'd drive some of the BRP into Asheville. My favorite section of the parkway is along the viaduct =

If you want to do water activities and hiking, I'd do that in and around Ashevile NC - instead of driving all the way over to Blue Ridge GA

For water activities, I like the NOC. Check out their French Broad river options -

Asheville to Blue Ridge GA to Savannah to Charleston is 584 miles and almost 10 hours of driving.

Asheville to Charleston is 267 miles and 4 hours of driving. You can take a side trip over to Savannah if you want to after you visit Savannah.

Your original routing is more than 17 hours of driving in 5 days. That's a lot of driving. You can do all that you are interested in with better routing.

Georgia is twice the size of Ireland.

You could fit two Irelands in Georgia and still have more Georgia left. :-)
