From Atlanta, and interested in doing the Washington-Wilkes Tour of homes this year in April. Can anybody suggest a good bed and breakfast in the historic district?

I don't know about B&Bs, but I've heard good things about the Fitzpatrick Hotel on the town square. Apparently it's a beautiful historic hotel that was shut down 50+ years and only recently renovated & reopened.

Lots of great bed and breakfasts in Washington...they vary from colonial homes, to victorian and large antebellum mansions. Here are just a few that I know of. Tour of Homes is amazing...a beautiful time of year to be there!

We were in Washington, Ga. a few years ago, and stayed at Wisteria Hall bed and breakfast. Very nice place in an old antebellum home with white columns. The rooms were delightful and breakfast was great. The town is charming and there's plenty to see...including three museums. Tour of homes in April should be a beautiful time to be there with all the dogwoods and azaleas in bloom. I found this article, hope it helps-

As mentioned above, there are several good bed and breakfasts in Washington. Another new one in town is the Holly Court Inn. It is the house that Mrs. Jefferson Davis and her two children stayed in while they awaited President Davis' arrival to Washington, Ga. after leaving Richmond. It has only recently been turned into a bed and breakfast and looks pretty nice, although I personally havn't been in it. I would suggest making reservations early at any of these, as the tour of homes is a popluar time for tourists to visit Washington. I will be there myself...returning home for my favorite time of year! Beautiful.

Here's their website: www.bbonline.com/ga/hollycourt/index.html

See you there!

I've never done the tour of homes in Washington, but have visited before. What a beautiful little town! If you are into history, this is the place to visit. The list of historic events and "firsts" is quite impressive and extensive. Check out the Mary Willis Library...one of my favorite buildings and the first public library in the state of Georgia.

Try Washington Plantation www.washingtonplantation.com . It's an 1828 plantation house a quarter mile from the town square, and just across the street from Spring Tour headquaters. They may be booked up by now, but it's worth a try.

Just wanted to let you know that in addition to the daytime tour on April 2nd, there is also a candlelight tour offered in the evening. I've seen the schedule of events and it includes 3-4 other houses for the evening candlelight tour. You can also go to a dessert soiree that night as well at one of the homes...additional cost. Also, a big craft show on the square that day. I know you can buy tickets there the day of the event, but can also call the Washington Chamber of Commerce to get in advance. (706) 678-2013

I'll be there for the tour of homes too, thunder. Any place in Washington to have a drink or two and watch people dance and fight?
