Best Florida Beach for family with teens

Hi, We are a family of 5 looking to stay on a beautiful beach in sunny Florida! Mom and Dad are looking to relax in the sun, the kids ages 18, 18, and 16 are looking for fun activities, not the party scene, and not Disney, but lots of things in the area to do with the whole family.

We have an Exchange student living with our family for 1 year, we would love to show him how beautiful and different parts of America can be. We are from Maine and already he has experienced below zero temperatures, an ice storm, school cancellations and power outages! And it's only mid December!!!

We plan to travel either the 1st or 2nd week in March 2009. It's our son's first official spring break (freshman in college!). I know we will likely bump into the spring break crowd due to timing.

Does anyone have suggestions for the best fun-filled AND relaxing beach for families with teens?

Thanks!

Clearwater Beach has what you're looking for. It's youth-oriented without being too rowdy. I think you adults will enjoy it, too.

I agree, since it will be at spring break the east coast area, Cocoa Beach, Daytona, Etc. will be very crowded. The west coast has beautiful sugar sand beaches, try Clearwater or further south the Ft. Meyers area.

I agree. Do look into Clearwater Beach. It's one of the best beaches in FL IMO. Wide, soft white sand. You would be able to walk to a variety of restaurants from just about any hotel on the beach. Car not really necessary to get around. Generally speaking, Clearwater Beach draws a bit of a younger crowd than the other beaches along the gulf coast. Plenty of other teens for them to meet, play, hang out, look at etc. There will be some spring breakers, but CB is not a big spring break draw like Panama City, or Daytona, so it won't be too wild. Plenty for mom and dad here also!

The Southern part of the beach is a little more crowded, and will be more younger people than the Northern end. Check out the Sand-pearl Resort. It is on the Northern end, so mom and dad can kick back and relax, and the teens have just a 5-10 minute walk to the Pier60, and South Beach area. Next to Pier60 is the Hilton. These two are directly on the main beach. More moderately priced hotels are also all over the beach, although mostly across the street, but just a short walk to the main beach.

Plenty of water activities at the marina right on the beach, fishing, jet skis, parasailing.

Hello. Any thoughts on bringing two teenagers (17 and 15) to Sarasota? Is it youthful enough for them? We're looking at the Holiday Inn there.

Sarasota has St. Armands Circle which has good shops. The beaches are pretty quiet. Bradenton is nearby and has the aquarium with the famed Manatee. There are things to do but it is more adult oriented.
