Florida no car, no Disney, great beach/hotel + fly Bristol? |
|
Sorry about the title folks - have so many questions. Ok, Hubby and I early 50's, quite active, like swimming, good music - maybe a concert (blues, soul, rock) looking for Florida vacation without a car. Unsure about Theme Parks as Hubby has Epilepsy. Prefer to relax, nice beach, good hotel with pool, restaurants, music, shopping and food. Does Amtrak operate in Florida? Are there organised coach/day tours to places? Would a 2 centre be better to get a contrast? Has anyone flown from Bristol, England with First Choice Airlines? Thank you. |

Amtrak is in Florida. Problem really is, without renting a car it really limits where you can go. Taking Amtrak anywhere will really take up alot of your time, and public transportation, while not really good anywhere, can only be used to get you around in one specific city. Also, you will be limited to staying very near a major airport. Some places you may want to look into include Ft. Lauderdale/Miami. Clearwater Beach via Tampa airport. Cocoa Beach via Orlando airport.

Problem will be getting about without a car. There are some great beach locations, particularly around Sarasota (Siesta, Longboat, Anna Maria)Area has plenty going on, many nice restaurants and good shopping. Anna Maria has a free trolley running around the island but how do you get there ? Orlando is central and easy to get from the airport to where you might stay but not a relaxing place of course and no beaches. Why no car ? Driving is easy in the States and relatively inexpensive.

steveoxuk - Reason no car is I want to relax and be transported. We did California and Nevada last year and hired a car. Yes, cheap but as I said my Hubby is an Epileptic and cannot drive. I found it quite tiring and stressful doing over 1000 miles. Just thought it would be easier to jump on a train or bus. Never mind, perhaps we are looking for the wrong kind of holiday.
