I just have a few logistical questions that I can't seem to find answers for. My husband and I are planning to drive up the Pacific Coast Highway from San Diego up to Seattle first 2 weeks of April (I realize it's not the Pacific Coast highway the entire way but we'd like to stay on the coast as much as we can). We live in Toronto so we're driving down to San Diego, doing the PCH and then driving home from Seattle.
How long does it take to go from San Diego to the top of Northern California? (Or is it better to start north and go south?) I've been looking on line and can't find a time frame. I want to make sure that we're not rushed and miss anything but at the same time I don't want to go too slow and then have to rush home. I'm thinking 5 days? Or is that too much time?
Is it better to plan your hotel stops ahead of time or hope there's a vacancy when you need to stop for the night? How many nights should we plan on?
Also, is it safe to drive at that time of year on the PCH? I'm thinking specifically of rockslides and rain etc.
