I would take a day away from Vegas and add it somewhere between Vegas and Yosemite.

I would take a day away from SLO and add it to Monterey (2 nights in Cambria will suffice for this area)

I would probably add another day to Santa Barbara, as well. Perhaps skip San Diego this trip. One night won't do it justice anyway.

We were really hoping to find our overnight accommodation 'on the fly', esp the Highway One elements of our trip.

Given that we are going in September, are we risking the odd night sleeping in the car ?????

Suggest to make reservations along Pacific coast. We once ended in Salinas because all was full in Monterey/Carmel ;)

Carmel is the perfect place for a honeymoon trip! What is your budget for lodging in this area? The Tickle Pink Inn or La Playa would both be nice places with a higher budget.

It's your honeymoon. Please, please, pre-book your lodgings!! September is still a busy travel month and many areas along the coast have special events that fill rooms up.

You do NOT want to spend your honeymoon searching for a place to lay your head at night. You run the risk of ending up with a dump or something UBER expensive or worse.... a situation like what Tet14 experienced. Salinas is NOT a desirable area to overnight in. Lots of gang activity and not exactly a tourist draw, for sure.

If you give us an idea of what your budget is, we can make some recs for clean, decent places to stay. Since you've mapped out an itinerary, it only makes sense to book your lodgings for those towns.

Re the budget, it will vary dependant on location. On the Highway One section we would hope not to spend any more than $150 per room per night and hope breakfast is thrown in. Hoping that will get us something pretty OK.
