West coast honeymoon itinery places, times&hotel help please

Hi there!

Myself and my other half are planning a road trip around the west coast of America for our honeymoon this summer :)

So far we have;

Fly in San Francisco - 3 nights (hotel / area suggestions would be greatly appreciated - we are thinking budget hotel here, as we will be out and about all day!)

Pick up car on last day and..

Onto Yosemite national park 3 nights (hotel booked!)

Back to the west coast - aiming for Monterey bay then to drive down to LA (we would like an over night stop somewhere between the two, but we have no idea where so again - any suggestions?? :)

LA for 3 nights (no hotel booked either - area / hotel suggestions - budget is fine here too!)

onto San Diego for 3 nights (area / hotel suggestions please - nice $200/250 ish a night room, beachy)

Then onto Las Vegas for 6 nights (hotel booked :) )

Then back to the UK :(

Do these seem reasonable times for each area -bar Las Vegas and Yosemite no hotels are booked, so we can change timescales around if needed. Any suggestions on hotels and areas to stay in the areas?

Any help would be much appreciated! Also places to stop at when driving between places would be fab

Welcome to TA Becky Sounds like a great plan. After some more feedback, you may then want to go to each city and look at the hotels link and then find hotels in your price range. This forum ie the CA forum is for planning your overall trip. If you then need suggestion between or among a few hotels please post those choices. We cannot guess what low budget or medium budget is and hotel prices vary based on the season

If you spend a few minutes in each city forum and look at the top question plus read a couple of pages of each forum, I guarantee that you wil have a wealth of info from locals and visitors

Typically after Monterey, one would suggest a night in Cambria and then with a stop in Santa Barbara, you could head to LA. LA is huge so you may want to read the TQ on that forum and then decide on where to stay.

6 nights in Vegas ? Wow ok. I guess you want to gamble and see all the shows and eat at all the fancy restaurants. Humm Ok. Perhaps you could take a few days out and go and do an overnight at the Grand Canyon and also do day trips to Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam. Summer is HOT HOT in Vegas -- are you really sure you want to just go between hot and cold (indoors v/s outdoors)

Hi Becky

Some of the "nicer" places in/around Monterey/Carmel:

Monterey Plaza Hotel

Spindrift Inn

Seven Gables Inn

La Playa Hotel

Tickle Pink Inn

The quaintest. romantic town between Monterey and LA would be Cambria. www.cambriachamber.org/

Cambria lodging: Moonstone Landing, Sand Pebbles Inn, Best Western Fireside Inn, Cambria Pines Lodge

I would take a day away from Las Vegas and add it to the coast drive with an overnight in Santa Barbara.

Monterey to Santa Barbara in one day would make for a LONG marathon day of driving/sightseeing. All the good stuff is along that 90 mile stretch between Carmel and Cambria and should NOT be rushed.

Sounds as if you really are interested in touring and staying in the big cities, except for Yosemite. Do I read that correctly?

Or are you open to seeing some amazing scenery and visiting some charming villages and cute historic towns?

I can suggest several places to explore and possibly to stay overnight that you will be very very close to in your travels, but amazing scenery, charm and cute historic towns might just not be to your liking.

Or is it? Please let us know if you would like some smaller places to explore (if that is your desire).
