There is indeed a cigar store in Trinidad. I have always just bought cigars at the airport (Cienfuegos or Santa Clara) duty free. Better price and you are assured they are legit.
So I could buy a few when landing there and take them to the resort with me? Thing is I usually bux a box when I leave but I need to buy a few when at the hotel ;)
Airports are generally the worst place to buy legal cigars in Cuba...
1.) Storage conditions are usually horrible. No humidors & air conditioning wrecks havoc on a cigar.
2.) Selection is generally very poor and prices are usually no better. In fact they can even be worse than buying from a real Habanos SA approved retailer like a LCDH (La Casa Del Habanos) store.
3.) Airport staff are bored and uncaring, no knowledge or professionalism whatsoever regarding the product.
4.) Since you're on your way out of the country it's by far the most common place to be slipped fakes. How are you going to complain?"
You can get a good idea of what to expect to pay for cigars from this list... http://pricing.cubancigarinformation.com/
In Cienfuegos there is a La Casa del Habano store listed at:
Blvd. Centro Histórico. Avenida No. 54, esq. a 33.

I'm having weird deja vu...
lol Terry...I was trying to remember who I copied that from...lol
I'm pleased that an expert like yourself agrees with my assessment, Geoff.
By the way, due to direct personal experience with staff "outside of work" that advice (at least at Varadero Airport) is more accurate and up-to-date than ever. ;-)
at least the varadero airport does have store now, with good humidors, but the prices have gone way way up over the last year for sure. The two who were on duty, a total waste of time they knew nothing about cigars, only that they had no monty #4's, same line they used in June also...lol.
seems now a list of cigars prices is getting harder and harder to keep up to date...R&J #1 are not 5.50, #2's 4.50 hoyo de monterrey coronation are 4.00 now from 3....and the prices change from hotel to hotel.
rrrichar....I had heard through the grapevine that cigars prices are going up soon. Perhaps this is the start of it?!
I'll have to change those, thanks
Yes, last trip sept 30 for two weeks, at BJ's...the lady was telling me and showing me a price list increase, on different brands. She was waiting for the call. The R&J #2's were 5.25, from 3.05 in June, for 5.25 there are better cigars than a #2.for the same money I bought a bolivar royal...note to self for future reference have a full stomach first ....lol..
