Please help us on our 2 nights itinerary in Lauterbrunen

Hi there,

we will be arriving Lauterbrunen at noon from Zermatt. After check in to hotel and if the weather is good, we would like to take the discounted afternoon fare (CHF 130) to Jungfraujoch.

Where and when should we buy our Jungfraujoch train ticket? We will be holding Swiss Pass if that matters.

Can we stop at Wengen before Kleine Scheidegg? How long should we spare for Wengen?

On the way down, we would like to stop at Grindelwald for a stroll before heading back to Lauterbrunen. Is it correct that when the train stop at Grindelwald Station, we just hop off and hop on the next available train after the visit? Should I indicate this when buying tickets?

Next day- cruise day. We would take the morning train to Interlaken Ost to board our boat for Brienz.. We would take a train back to Interlaken and do a bit of strolling or maybe lunch in Interlaken before boarding the next boat to Thun. From Thun, we would take the train back to Lauterbrunen. Is this too tiring and too much cruising for a day? If you think that we should only do one lake, which lake do you recommend?

Next day- half day. We would like to visit Murren in the morning before taking our train to Lucerne.

May I know if the places that we intend to visit are in correct order? Is there any back tracking?

Thank you.

I would switch your schedule around a little. Don't attempt to go up to the Jungfraujoch in the afternoon you arrive. Weather is often cloudy in the afternoons and can ruin your views at the top and you won't have enough time for the journey up and back and be able to spend any time at the top. I would start first thing in the morning on day two and head up to the Jungfraujoch if the weather is good. You can use the route you describe coming back through Grindelwald.

Day one I would get checked into your hotel and maybe go up to Murren for the afternoon. On your third day I would check out of your hotel early and take your bags down to the Interlaken Ost train station and stow them in the lockers there while you take a boat cruise on Lake Brienz. When you get back to the station you can catch your train to Lucern.

Thanks mountaintopper. Instead of storing our luggage at the train station, can we bring along on the cruise? Is the a restriction on size and weight? Can we take the Golden Pass Train from Brienz to Lucerne? Do we need to book the Golden Pass train in advance?

Wengen isn't vey big and apart from a few shops and spectacular scenery you don't need long there unless you are wanting to just sit and watch the world go by. As you walk through the village past all the shops there is a right turn which shows a few signs to a hotel and a bar. If you walk up there and turn right there is a very swiss coffee shop/bar which is a lovely place to have a stop as its different to the more commercial cafes on the main road.

For half a day I would recommend Murren trip, maybe getting the cable up to

Grutsalp which leaves at the end of the village opposite the station and then on to Murren. That way Lu will have more time to enjoy the trip to Jungfrau and get off an enjoy the various stops. the air and the views from Kleine are wonderful and it has a wonderful old fashioned atmosphere before heading up the mountain.
