Riga on the 11th January 2010

hi, I was just wondering what the weather would be like around January in Riga, is it a good time to visit? Was thinking of taking a ferry over from stockholm and staying two days and flying back to Dublin. Does anyone know if ferries are likely to get cancelled that time of year? Dont want to be stuck in Sweeden and have to pay for extra flights etc. Many thanks

If you like winter, snow and cold weather, then January is a good time to visit. It is when the real winter usually starts over here, at least in recent years.

I don't think that ferries get cancelled often, but it really depends on the weather. No one can be 100% sure.

Long distance ferries rarely get cancelled. Mid-Jan will be close to the coldest of the winter, but nothing outlandish, maybe minus 10 or 15. SAS and Air-Baltic operate frequent flights to Riga from Stockholm, that could well be cheaper than a ferry ride.
